UC3D Identify knowledge gaps, seek expertise and foster links with research and innovation

As work on adaptation advances, you should seek to identify knowledge gaps that are important to your decision making. Knowledge gaps, whether due to absence or poor usability, could be addressed by seeking external expertise – and there may be opportunities to connect with research and innovation.

Sub tasks:

Review completed climate risk assessments and strategic planning documents (Tasks UC3B and UC3C) and identify knowledge gaps where new evidence is needed to inform more accurate assessment of climate risks or identification of adaptation options.

Share knowledge gaps and research needs with partner organisations to help identify any relevant existing research or shared research priorities.

Develop a project specification setting out the research question and the outputs required.

Search for relevant research and technical experts who could address the knowledge gaps that you have identified.
- Review current and ongoing research led by ClimateXChange, Scotland’s centre of expertise connecting climate change research and policy.
- Identify whether there are any academics who may be interested in collaborating with your organisation to develop research projects, potentially enabling your organisation to benefit from research council funding.
- Identify consultancy services that may be able to provide relevant knowledge and expertise on a paid for basis.
