Our partnership project with Perth and Kinross Council
Communities have an important role to play in responding to the challenges and opportunities presented by changes in climate.
As part of the 'A9: Climate change in the central highlands' project, Adaptation Scotland and Perth and Kinross Council ran a series of three community engagement workshops in the Carse of Gowrie, an area of high value agricultural land bordering the Tay Estuary in lowland Perthshire.
The community engagement workshops aimed to:
- Raise awareness of recent past and future projected changes in climate;
- Identify how the area has been affected by recent past weather events and may by impacted by projected changes in climate;
- Identify local actions that could help reduce negative impacts and help the community to benefit from potential opportunities;
- Generate resources that could be used by other communities to identify how they may be impacted by climate change.
The workshops were well attended by a diverse range of participants, many of whom attended all three workshops sessions and expressed a willingness to be involved with ongoing community engagement work. Feedback showed that overall participants found the workshops to be beneficial and would recommend the process to other communities.
The resources above include:
- Guidance notes on running the workshops used in the Carse of Gowrie including templates of all activity worksheets and advice on planning and arranging the workshops;
- Copies of presentations used at each of the workshops;
- The report provided for participants following completion of the workshops; and
- Background information materials provided for participants prior to the workshops.
