Scotland's Climate Ready cities showcase at COP23

At this year's UN Climate Change Conference the nations of the world will meet in Bonn from 6-17 November to advance the aims and ambitions of the Paris Agreement and achieve progress on its implementation guidelines. Members of the Adaptation Scotland team will be attending as part of the UK Delegation and will be hosting an adaptation showcase on Sunday 12 November in the UK Pavilion, Bonn Zone, featuring climate adaptation action from Scotland's three biggest cities (Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen).

Scotland’s leadership on climate change is well established. At this event we will provide an overview of the Scottish Government’s commitment to a climate ready, low carbon society across all levels from international collaborations to strong national policy, and support for local action. We will share the story of Scotland's adaptation journey by featuring case studies on our three biggest cities, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, showing how they took tailored approaches to shared challenges.

Kit England will profile leading work from the Glasgow City Region where he is leading the Climate Ready Clyde initiative to develop a shared adaptation strategy and action plan covering one third of Scotland population.

Anna Beswick will then discuss the Edinburgh Adapts approach which has seen a long term Edinburgh Adapts vision firmly established alongside commitment by 50 partners deliver 100 actions over the next 5 years. She will also share lessons from emerging work in Aberdeen to develop a holistic, city-wide adaptation strategy.

We will also be joined by Shona Rawlings from Scotland’s 2050 Climate Group, who will reflect on the role of young people in driving progress towards a climate ready, low carbon society.

The event will conclude with whisky tasting and networking session.
